About Us
Andre Hamelberg
Andre has served in the UA since his freshman year during the pandemic. He has seen the ups and downs of the UA and is committed to working for the student body to tackle the issues of the MIT community. Andre has vast experience and involvement at MIT. Andre is currently serving a full term as a co-chair of the UA Financial Board where he has worked hard to supply students with the support they need. He has successfully implemented changes that have secured the most funding to student groups in MIT history. Additionally, he has provided hundreds of students the opportunity to travel across the globe for professional and academic conferences. Outside of the UA, Andre has been a teaching assistant, a tutor, and a grader in the math department helping hundreds of students advance in their coursework. He also concluded his term as his fraternity’s (Theta Chi) President where he worked closely with other fraternity presidents across campus to mitigate risks and ensure representation in all cases. Under his administration, Theta Chi received the Best Scholarship Award for their commitment to academic excellence. Andre was also an executive for the Minority Business Association before its eventual discontinuation. Furthermore, Andre also served as an Associate Advisor for freshmen. As for non-academic extracurriculars, Andre is a member of the BSU, NSBE, Wrestling Club, and UROPs.
Michael Hanson
After serving a full term as the Co-Chair for the UA’s Financial Board Committee, and the UA Representative to the Association of Student Activities Exec Board, Michael has gained a lot of experience in working to make MIT a more enjoyable and beneficial place for all. Through his work in Finboard, he helped allocate the largest UA Finboard funding cycle in MIT history. He has also helped promote and expand the Travel Grant Program so that more money is available to students to travel to conferences that contribute to their academic and professional development. He also has worked closely within the ASA with SOLE and GSC board to help make a more equitable Finboard Funding procedure for clubs and organizations. He has also served as the African Learning Circle Chair for the African Students Association where he ran weekly seminars and discussions to educate the MIT community about current events happening across the African Diaspora. He also helped put on large community events like the annual ASA Cultural Night. He has also worked as an FPOP Counselor for the ChemE department to generate interest in majoring in Chemical Engineering, and educate freshmen on the opportunities available to them through the Course 10 department and beyond. Michael is also a Camp Counselor for Camp Kesem, which is an organization that works to support children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, fun-filled creative programs and a lasting community. Outside of this he is also a member of the BSU, AIChE, NOBCChe, and NSBE.
